  • Jamie Hanner will be named CEO of the Greater Green Bay YMCA starting May 1 after her interim title is removed, as the organization announced on April 29. She brings over 20 years of experience from various roles at the Y and replaces Sean Elliot, who left to lead the Capital Area YMCA in Baton Rouge.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Green Bay business leaders said that due to uncertainty before the NFL Draft, some local businesses adjusted staffing while others saw fewer customers than expected—116,000 visitors from 44 states spent an average of 155 minutes downtown—and now many are planning more events to boost future turnout.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Green Bay residents will have several events this weekend — the Run for the Roses Wine Walk will offer 20 wine stops on May 3 from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Broadway District and the Titletown Train Show at the KI Convention Center will feature train demos on May 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on May 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The Green Bay Botanical Garden will open the 'Washed Ashore: Art to Save the Sea' exhibit on May 2 while Brown County Central Library will host Mary Annette Pember for a book signing and meet-and-greet on May 3 at 1 p.m.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Green Bay Area Public School District held a meeting Tuesday at Doty Elementary School (525 Longview Ave.) to review new renderings and plans for Doty and Chappell elementary schools as part of the approved referendum and welcomed community feedback.  WBAY

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Green Bay will start its City Hall Academy - a free program for residents and business owners to learn how city services work and meet officials - on May 1. Attendees must join at least six sessions and one City Council or Committee meeting to graduate.  Green Bay News Network
  • Green Bay has launched the Grow Solar Green Bay — Fox Valley program to help residents and small businesses install solar panels at below-market prices while offering free Solar Power Hour sessions and no-obligation site assessments from the program’s installer through spring and summer. Participants from surrounding areas can look forward to lowering energy bills with this city-backed initiative.  NBC 26
  • Green Bay officials planned the NFL Draft by coordinating police, fire, transit, and the SafeRide program to manage heavy traffic and nearly 600,000 visitors, resulting in only one arrest and a normal call volume over the three days. Officials credited strong agency teamwork and public cooperation—evident in low congestion and few incidents—for the successful event.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
