COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Green Bay eateries are hosting a Souper Bowl fundraiser as 16 local businesses donate part of soup sales to the New Community Shelter's meal program - a unique effort ensuring meals are served all year. The event runs through Super Bowl Sunday and has already boosted sales at Pancake Place.  FOX 11
  • Ashwaubenon’s Center for Childhood Safety is running low on car seats as delayed WisDOT grant funding leaves counties scrambling to keep kids safe. Local programs in Ashwaubenon and Oconto County have only six seats remaining and are asking for donations (donations cannot include used seats).  WNCY
  • Green Bay residents have several local events on Feb. 7 including a family hike with beer samples at Brown County Reforestation Camp, a Galentine's brunch at Blo Dry Bar, a candlelit walk at Bay Beach Wildlife Sanctuary & a Canadian Brass concert at The Weidner.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

CULTURE NEWS

  • Doc Heide, who co-founded Northern Sky Theater, released his first album of original songs in over 20 years yesterday with his band Zen of Thieves. The 16-track album, expanded by Kickstarter funding, explores hope and compassion with Wisconsin tales and is available for streaming and on CD.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • State and city officials plan to redevelop East River Van Beaver Park and Emilie Park with new flood defenses as part of Flood Insurance Awareness Week (Feb. 1-7). The project aims to guard nearby neighborhoods after severe flooding in 2019.  WNCY
  • Wisconsin DHS said SNAP and FoodShare recipients (ages 18 to 64 and parents of kids 14 and older) will receive mailed letters at their next renewal asking them to complete 80 hours of work, volunteer or job training per month, with benefits reduced to up to three months in three years if requirements are not met.  WNCY
  • The Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced four construction projects to improve I-41 and local ramps on Green Bay’s west side – work is set from summer 2026 to 2031 and will involve lane closures and detours; motorists are encouraged to review details and provide feedback.  FOX 11
  • Green Bay City Council gave Mayor Eric Genrich final authority over lease terms for a planned 5-megawatt solar farm on the far east side — OneEnergy Development warned rising annual rates and unknown costs could make the project too expensive.  Green Bay Press-Gazette

  • Meijer is recalling more than 38,000 gallons of steam distilled water sold in red-lidded one-gallon jugs due to a floating black substance found in the product; the recall affects stores in Wisconsin and elsewhere, and items carry a sell-by date of Oct. 4 (lot code 39-222 No. 3).  WBAY
