COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Greater Green Bay YMCA announced a $9.4 million capital campaign to expand the West Side YMCA in Howard by building a new gymnasium (7,500 sqft) that will include pickleball courts, a lap pool, renovated locker rooms, and improved play areas.   • Former Green Bay bishop Robert Banks, who led the diocese from 1990 to 2003, died at 97. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 5 at 6:00 p.m. + visitation begins Friday, Feb. 6 at 8:00 a.m. at St. Francis Xavier Cathedral.  WNCY
  • The Greater Green Bay YMCA announced its West Side Expansion Capital Campaign Monday in Howard to boost access to health, wellness, youth development, and family programs. The campaign marked a major step toward a brighter future for the community.  FOX 11

  • The District Pour Haus opens today in Green Bay and offers over 50 self-serve taps for beer, cider and wine, while guests use a special card to track their pours and enjoy family-run pizzas in a cozy setting.  NBC 26
  • District Pour Haus opened Monday at 686 Mike McCarthy Way in Ashwaubenon. The 3,400 sqft venue has 48 self-serve taps and a full-service kitchen — offering a fresh dining option for nearby eventgoers.  FOX 11

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Mickey has grown confident as a German major at UW-Green Bay over four years. She built a supportive community with helpful professors and peers and improved her language skills during a study abroad stay in Kassel.  UW-Green Bay
  • Green Bay’s Board of Education met Monday at 6 p.m. to develop interview questions for screening superintendent applicants as current superintendent Vicki Bayer retires at the end of the school year.  WBAY
  • Green Bay Area Public School Board held a moment of silence at 6 p.m. Monday to honor Alex Pretti — a Preble graduate and former intensive care nurse — who was fatally shot by federal agents this past weekend in Minneapolis. The meeting was open to the public.  WBAY

  • The Coast Guard advises ice users to be cautious in Green Bay and Sturgeon Bay as cutter Mobile Bay starts annual ice breaking duties today to clear paths for commercial vessels. Officials say to stay away from recently broken ice (which may be unstable) for safety.  Green Bay Press-Gazette
